Trauma-Informed Yoga (TIY) is a specialized approach designed to help survivors reconnect with their bodies in a safe, non-judgmental environment . Unlike traditional yoga, TIY prioritizes safety, choice, and agency over the perfection of physical poses . Many trauma survivors experience hyper-vigilance, feeling unsafe within their own skin. In our sessions, we use “invitational language”—offering movements rather than commands—allowing you to decide what feels safe for your body .
For the Muslim community, this provides a modest and culturally safe space to engage in somatic healing. By focusing on grounding techniques and slow, controlled breathing, TIY helps regulate the autonomic nervous system, reducing symptoms of PTSD and chronic stress . It allows individuals to regain the “presence” needed for Salah and other spiritual acts. Healing is about restoring connections—to ourselves, to others, and to our Creator . Our trauma-informed yoga sessions at Nafs Healing are a sanctuary for those looking to reclaim their bodies and find peace from within .
